The Sisters of Mercy and the National Maternity Hospital

By Patrick Brogan

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris, has announced that the new maternity hospital will not be run by the Sisters of Mercy. They do, however, own the land that the new site will be built on. They will surely profit handsomely from this.

This is an organisation that has repeatedly dragged its feet on redress for the people that suffered under its care. This at a time when the Tuam babies scandal has been one of the biggest stories of the year so far.

Uplift have started a campaign to stop any involvement by The Sisters of Mercy in the National Maternity Hospital. It has had 20,000 signatures so far.
