A court has ruled that employees must be aware that their employers may be checking their emails, Reuters reports. The Strasbourg based European Court of Human Rights said anyone working for a company has to be aware that their communications could be checked prior to it happening.
They came to this judgement after a Romanian man, Bogdan Barbulescu, was fired ten years ago for using his email for private use, something which was against company policy. He had contacted his brother and fiancée on Yahoo.
The European court found that the Romanian legal system had not protected Barbulescu’s rights.
