The reaction from President Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is still being felt in the region and in Israel and Palestine in particular.
Media reports claimed the death of two men, both suspected members of Islamic Jihad, by Israeli air raids in Gaza. The two men were travelling by motorbike. The IDF has denied any involvement in the attack.
After Trump’s decision, it is believed Hamas fighters launched rockets into Israeli held territory. The Israeli city of Sderot was the target of three attacks. The city close to the Gaza border was hit by one rocket with the Iron-Dome intercepting another. The third never crossed the border.
A stabbing incident also occurred near the city of Ariel. This is a Jewish city, but deep in the West Bank territory. Unfortunately, such attacks might be the start of something worse to follow as Ismail Haniya, leader of Hamas, said Trump’s decision effectively ended the peace process.
